At The Nursing Home for Adults With Dementia, the 2020 World Alzheimer’s  Day was marked with a Concert

At the Nursing Home for Adults with Dementia in Razgrad, a concert was conducted today on September 21st – World Alzheimer’s Day.

The vocal  group “Silver Nightingale” performed several folk songs from different geographical areas in Bulgaria.  Users who participated in active musictherapy also participated in the performances. National fork dances followed, bringing joy to both the participating and the observing users of the Home.

A donor provided catering for the holiday and a large festive cake.

The Nursing home states that Alzheimer’s disease is the most common manifestation of dementia, and the public’s attention is increasingly being focused on helping those with Alzheimer’s and dementia, and charity initiatives are also being targeted in Razgrad.

In June and July, Compassion Alzheimer Bulgaria Foundation participated in a fundraising campaign to support the Nursing Home for Adults with Dementia Razgrad.

The funds raised amount to BGN 3556 and were spent on detergents, disinfectants of hygiene materials, clothing and bed linen.Another joint initiative of Compassion Alzheimer’s Foundation Bulgaria, together with the “To Be” Foundation and Lydia Stankulova, was organizing and conducting musictherapy for the users of Nursing homes for adults with dementia in Razgrad and Kazanlak in July, August, September and October 2020.

The harp is one of the most ancient instruments used to treat, thanks to the fact that the strings flicker with their entire length, and the casing is wooden, making the instrument one of the most suitable for healing music. Lydia has a Master’s degree in Harp from the National Academy of Music “Pancho Vladigerov” and is about to graduate in an international specialization in therapeutic harp music.

The staff of the Nursing home expresses gratitude to the performers and partners of this initiative for the fact that during the period of continuation of the anti-epidemic measures, this possibility of therapy for persons with dementia is realized.

Subject to strict hygiene and disinfection measures, social workers in the home introduce new forms of arttherapy and labor therapy. The chiropractor develops different models of exercises and games to activate the physical activity of those with dementia.

New techniques, activities and games can also be used by people caring for people with dementia in a home environment.
